London Film Festival 2021: Midway preview…Rehana, Two Friends, Pedro, Ali & Ava, Flee, 7 days and more… and celebrity Clooney Sunday

Luckily or not – for the asianculturevulture and those of you who have followed our previous global film festival coverage and live in the UK/London, the above films can still be seen…

London 12.30am BST

Hello everyone – how are you doing? A late one from us – well, we are on the festival trail – London Film Festival (LFF) to be precise.

It ends next week (Sunday, October 17), so we are just over the half-point of the 159 films or so…

Who saw ‘Rehana’ yesterday (October 10)? It screened for the first time, those of you avid (film and film festival) asianculturevultures will know this hard-hitting drama from Bangaldeshi director Abdullah Mohammad Saad about a woman assistant medical professor fighting patriarchy premiered at the Cannes Film Festival (and titled there ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ in July… Did you see our video review?

It’s here…

There is one more screening at the BFI Southbank later today (2.45pm), if you missed today’s first showing at Curzon in Mayfair.

And you can read our print review shortly…

Elsewhere today, there was much celebrity excitement – George Clooney and his wife Amal were on the red carpet for ‘The Tender Bar’ – a late addition to LFF, it seems as it isn’t listed in the main LFF brochure. Clooney directs Ben Affleck in this coming age drama in which a young man goes in search of father figures at a local bar.

Many also got the chance to watch ‘The French Dispatch’ earlier and one of its many stars – Bill Murray was there to introduce it – some photos inside are on social media. This is another film that premiered in Cannes this year – and we did get to talk about it in one of Cannes videos…see our Youtube channel

Two friends’ (Tuesday and Thursday); ‘Pedro’ (Thursday and Friday); ‘Ali & Ava’ (Wednesday and Thursday); ‘Encounter’ (Riz Ahmed is scintillating) has a final screening on Thursday; ‘Flee’ – Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well digitally from Friday (for a limited time), Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for World Cinema – you will know all about it from our Sundance coverage this year; ‘7 Days’ (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) – a covid romantic comedy – and a hoot, we kid you not… If you want to know more see our Tribeca Film Festival coverage

And last but certainly not least – ‘Invisible Demons’, another Cannes premiere coming to LFF (Friday and Saturday).

You can find out the booking situation by simply using the name of the film on 🔎

Also coming to LFF from our Cannes 2021 video review slate is ‘A Hero’ (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday); ‘Ahed’s Knee’ (Friday and Sunday).

Also, we’ve seen ‘Mothers of the Revolution’ – a rather brilliant documentary about the protesting women at Greenham Common in the 1980s; ‘Last Night in Soho’ – Edgar Wright’s celebration and lament about 1960s Soho; and ‘Azor’ (Wednesday and Thursday) – a very watchable and absorbing political drama set in the 1980s military dictatorship of Argentina.
