Lilly Singh (‘Superwoman’) and Priyanka Chopra make a Youtube video together…

Both are huge in their own right, but one is best known on the internet, while the other is a rising film and TV star in the US, having already made it big in Bollywood…

TWO OF THE HOTTEST entertainment stars have joined together to make a Youtube video that has already attracted millions of views.

Lilly Singh, better known as ‘Superwoman’, is a Youtube sensation with more than 10 million subscribers on her channel and has made a video “How to be a good wing woman” with film and TV star Priyanka Chopra. It was released on Christmas Eve.

It is one of Singh’s ’12 collabs of Christmas’ – she has made videos with other Youtube stars and one with film and TV star, Hilary Duff.

This comedy skit centres around a woman (Chopra as herself) who has just broken up with her (fictitious) boyfriend and is leaning on her friend (Singh as herself) for support – physical – as well as emotional at a bar. Both are of Punjabi origin and they play this up in moments.

In a bid to make her friend feel better, Singh decides to play the role of a ‘wing woman’ – someone who will help their friend snag another man or woman for a romantic encounter (winky, wink).

Singh decides the best strategy is to appear so crazy in front of her intended target that Chopra will look sweet and sane in comparison.

As you might expect, all does not go to plan…

Singh has also released a ‘bloopers’ video to accompany the “How to Be a Good Wing Woman” sketch – which is a bit more than just that.

She talks about how she managed to get Chopra to make their film and how it all happened. Singh is a huge Bollywood fan – as asianculturevulture readers can tell you.

She talked to www.asianculturevulture.com film columnist and BBC presenter Sunny (Sunny & Shay) about her favourite Bollywood films in February 2014. It is here; (and still something that gets a considerable number of hits every month, even now).

She also spoke to www.asianculturevulture.com about her dreams and aspirations, and how she started. At that time, she had just over two million susbscribers to her Youtube channel.

That interview is here and was published just before she left for India, where she met many of her Bollywood heroes on that trip.

It was something of a step change, as she moved from being just known about on the internet to something more. With the backing of Google (Youtube’s parent company), she went on to make videos with bigger stars – in December 2014 she appeared alongside Hollywood stars Seth Rogen and James Franco in a Christmas skit. She also released a film “Unicorn Island” which is about her touring the world as ‘Superwoman’, her live shows and meeting her fans.

Earlier this year she made a video with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, one of her own favourite stars. That video has almost 10 million views.

She also relocated from her family home of Toronto, Canada, to Los Angeles earlier this year.

A huge champion of women and girls and female empowerment, she also made a video with Michelle Obama, the First Lady, and wife of President Barack Obama about the importance of education, in September this year.

Most of her videos on her Superwoman channel (she also has a more personal vlogging channel) are comedy skits and some of the most popular feature her parents (for which she dons make up and appropriate attire).

She is now reckoned to be the highest earning female artist on Youtube (YT) by Forbes, the business magazine. Last year, she appeared in a list drawn up by the same magazine of the top ten highest earning YT artists in the world, earning over $2.5m (about £2m) a year.

Singh will release her first book in March, “How to be a Bawse” – which is subtitled, “A Guide to Surviving Conquering Life”. She will disclose how she has made it to Hollywood from being a psychology graduate whose first video (from her bedroom) on YT was religious in nature (no longer available, btw) and was her way of coping with bouts of being down and unhappy. She is also an entrepreneur and has her own clothing line and recently released a lipstick too.

Chopra is one of the most popular actors in Bollywood, and has a huge fan following in India, built up over many years. Her last big Indian film “Bajirao Mastani” earned her rave reviews.

More recently, she has become a household name in the US, with her starring role in the US hit TV cop drama series, “Quantico”. Such is her popularity that she will make her Hollywood debut next year in one of the most eagerly anticipated releases of 2017 – “Baywatch”.

In that she will appear alongside film stars ‘The Rock’ and Zac Efron, among others.

Both Singh and Chopra have huge social media followings – Chopra has nearly 16 million on Twitter, while Singh has a more modest 1.8 million plus on Twitter but she is heading towards 11 million subscribers on YT…
