LEADING art director and film personality Nitin Desai has passed away. He was 57.
He was also a National Film Award winner and well known in the industry.
The man who helped to make many films – among them, ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Devdas’ – was according to reports in the Indian media to have taken his own life and was found at his ND Studio yesterday (August 2) in Karjat, which is some 50 miles south of Mumbai.
He owned a studio where films such as ‘Jodha Akbar’ were shot and his company ND Art World was involved in a number of commercial heritage projects, as well as constructing sets for TV and film.
His passing brought many tributes from around Bollywood with Riteish Deshmukh, Siddharth Basu, and Neil Nitin Mukesh among those offering condolences and their sadness at his passing. Many praised his vision and artistry.
