UPCOMING star Sophia Ali talks to www.asianculturevulture.com about her lead role in the indie feature, ‘India Sweets and Spices’ and tells us how pathbreaking and refreshing it was to play Alia Kapur.
Her character is smart, headstrong and not averse to romance either – the film has an attractive young cast and there is a romantic element to the film, which is also extremely perceptive on gender, class and status in South Asian communities in the US, and reflects generational shifts elsewhere too.
Ali also talks about making her own way into acting and what you need to succeed and her shifting thoughts on the issue of representation.
