Shekhar Kapur on depth of British Asian talent in new film, ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ romcom…

Acclaimed director says everyone said – why do you want to do a romcom…

SHEKHAR KAPUR is one of the world’s best-known film directors and talks to acv about why he took on this film, ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ – his first western ‘romcom’ as he admits in our interview very early on.
He goes onto talk about intimacy and the other themes of the film which interested him.
Towards the end he talks about his latest project which he hopes to shoot later this year which has an environmental theme at the heart of it and is set in the future and will resemble a “Las Vegas sitting on Sudan”.
He has talked about this apocalyptic type scenario before – where the fight for scare resources such as water – become a daily matter of life and death. A few years ago (too far back to remember exactly) he spoke at the UK Film Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival about this as then untitled film – though he referred to it as – ‘Panni’ and one of the core subjects of this forthcoming film.
