There’s a palpable excitement when one of India’s most famous screen faces goes abroad…
HE CAME, he saw and he most definitely charmed.
Salman Khan, one of India’s biggest Bollywood stars, rolled into London for the first time in 11 or 12 years (his brother Sohail said it was 11; the hosts 12) and the ensuing hoopla was predictable, if as always, it is a thing of wonder for anyone not wholly familiar with the fevered excitement Bollywood routinely generates.
A hundred cameras clicked – ours among them – and Salman’s visage was beamed around the world and his fans spread all over the globe, reacted.
He didn’t say a great deal, sometimes speaking in Hindi/Urdu… there was a discernible interest from media on that side, both British and from abroad.
He isn’t promoting a film but a concert – he was one of several performers in the UK for the Dabangg UK tour; among his famous co-dancers and singers are Bollywood stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Sonakshi Sinha.
Well-known choreographer Prabhu Deva, who began his career in South Indian films, is the man behind the show – which is named after one of Khan’s most successful movies of late.
The others have varying levels of fan following in Bollywood and are here for the ride and who would blame them?
They play Birmingham tomorrow, before returning to London and The 02.
The group have already charmed Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong, now it’s the UK’s turn…
