IFFAM 2019: Bollywood star Bhumi Pednekar character asked ‘what are your hobbies?’ in latest Bollywood film, replies: ‘Getting physical…’ talks about changing face of Indian popular cinema for women…

Macao 5.45pm (UK 9.45am)

BOLLWYOOD star Bhumi Pednekar told www.asianculturevulture.com roles for women in Indian cinema are changing – and she very much wants be seen at the forefront of them and embody a new kind of Bollywood heroine – who calls as it is.

Speaking to acv in Macao as part of a group actors chosen by trade mag, Variety, to represent the changing face of cinema in Asia and here, to add added glamour to tonight’s closing ceremony of the International Film Festival and Awards Macao (IFFAM), Pednekar very much came across as an actor unafraid of making bold choices and representing a new generation of female stars, tired of convention and decorum for supposed starlets.

In our interview…

She said who could have made a mainstream Bollywood film with established Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar in ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha‘ and ‘Lust Stories‘ for Netflix which deals with the subject of sex in a way Indian cinema never has – it was nominated for an International Emmy this year in the TV/mini-series category.

Spoke about working with top Bollywood director Karan Johar on the forthcoming film, ‘Takht‘, a period piece which has a star-studded cast, including Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and is a period piece.

Being cast in a move being made by Akshay Kumar (as a producer and not acting in it) – ‘Durgavati‘ which starts filming next year. She also told acv that Kumar was looking for a woman many could relate to and identify among the masses and he felt Pednekar could pull it off.

She said the above roles all showed that she is extremely flexible and open-minded about the roles she takes on and very much enjoyed the attention and glamour that came with Bollywood stardom. She was virtually plucked from the production world and thrust in front of a camera and has enjoyed a meteoric rise in just the span of four years.

She also spoke to our acv about her acting ambitions and addresses her fans in a video which we will put out on Youtube in a day or two – along with other highlights from IFFAM this year. Subscribe to Youtube and don’t miss…

The full print interview covering these topics will also be out shortly…

See more of Bhumi later in the Awards ceremony here… follow in real-time…
