🎥 South Asian nominated and other prominent figures in entertainment met at talent bash on Thursday evening (March 9)

EVERYONE’S talking about the song, ‘Naatu Naatu’ – the team behind the song which has swept the world are in Los Angeles.

It gets to be performed during the live ceremony this evening/tomorrow (March 13 – UK GMT).

But also look out also for Best Score – for ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’. The music for the film is by composer and musician Rafiq Bhatia – who is of Indian descent and his parents grew up in East Africa.

His rock experimental band Son Lux, along with fellow band members Ian Chang and Ryan Lott were approached to do the music by writing-directing partnership Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinart, who are behind the quirky film which has a number of nominations alongside ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ which swept the Baftas a couple of weeks ago, and ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’. Ireland has a number of nominations across several categories.

Bhatia told US broadcasters ABC, he was stunned and “never in a million years” expected to be nominated.

The 35-year-old New Yorker recently found himself at theofficial Oscars nominee lunch and was among a select group of artists who celebrated South Asian achievement at being nominated at this year’s Oscars on Thursday evening (March 9).

At a swish cocktail event hosted by none other than Priyanka Chopra Jonas and her manager Anjula Acharia – the combined South Asian talent nominated came together to for the second annual South Asian Excellence at the Oscars event.

Among those attending were Malala and now based in the UK, actor-writer-producer Mindy Kaling, writer-actor Kumail Nanjiani, actor Kal Penn, writer-actor Aziz Ansari, Bela Bajaria (chief content officer Netflix), Radhika Jones (editor of magazine Vanity Fair), Joseph Patel (whose documentary film ‘Summer of Soul’ for Best Documentary Feature last year), filmmaker Shruti Ganguly, PR executive Anita Chatterjee. Film star Freida Pinto also attended.

At the same event were ‘Bridgerton’ star Simone Ashley, ‘Never Have I Ever’ Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and New Girl star Indian origin Canadian Hannah Simone.

Director of documentary, ‘All That Breathes’ Shaunak Sen is also in the US.

Also in town are the team behind ‘RRR’ – which features the song, ‘Naatu Naatu’ in it.
Writer-director SS Rajamouli, music composer MM Keeravaani and lyricist Chandrabose are expected to attend the ceremony. Stars of the film Ram Charan and NT Rama Rao have also been in the US.

The Oscar ceremony begins at 1am GMT; and red carpet coverage begins at 11pm GMT and you can watch on Sky Showcase and Sky for the ceremony – https://www.sky.com/
