Kochi-Muziris Biennale Foundation President Bose Krishnamachari resigns…

Head of foundation and co-founder steps down citing ‘family’ reasons…

London 10.40am GMT

BOSE KRISHNAMACHARI – widely recognised as the face behind Kochi- Muziris Biennale has resigned.

It has only been a month since we interviewed Bose at Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB) on our visit covering the opening of the 110-day long international art festival, seen as one of the biggest in Asia. Some 30 countries and over 60 artists are represented at this the sixth edition of the festival, which continues until March 31 this year. There wasn’t any hint of this when we were there – and the general atmosphere was very upbeat and positive – even though some parts of the Biennale were incomplete after Opening on December 12 2025. Late last year he was featured in a list of the 100 most influential global art figures.

We received a statement from the KMB’s press team just shortly before 9.40am GMT today. It reads as follows…

Mr Bose Krishnamachari has resigned from the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF). Prior to his resignation, he was serving as the President of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale and Member, Board of Trustees of KBF.

Mr Bose has cited pressing family reasons for his resignation.

Mr Bose Krishnamachari is one of the founders of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, and served as the Co-Curator for the first edition of the Biennale in 2012. He has been one of the most influential figures in the growth and evolution of the Biennale.

The Foundation has initiated the process of identifying an eminent person with high credentials in the art world to serve as President of Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

More when we have it – watch our interviews from Kochi-Muziris Biennale including with Bose on himself on December 14 2025
