Abhishek Bachchan on aspirational ‘Robbie’ in ‘Husband Material’ (‘Manmarziyaan’) interview soon

Toronto 5pm

STAR reaction alone has been quite phenomenal – check Twitter.

You might think most Bollywood star responses to ‘Manmarziyan’ has a touch of celebrity hyperbole about it.

Maybe – but the film which enjoyed its full world premiere here as ‘Husband Material’ was a triumph for everybody involved. It screened last night as a special gala presentation as part of the Toronto International Film Festival (September 6-16), at the Roy Thomson Hall, a majestic 2,000 seater here in the downtown Toronto.

The three main leads are wonderful and Abhishek Bachchan spoke today to us about his role as ‘Robbie’ in what is a triangle of love involving him, ‘Rumi’ (Taapsee Pannu) and ‘Vicky’ (Vicky Kaushal).

Bachchan talked about returning to films after a hiatus of two years, the chemistry between him and Taapsee and crucially what it meant to be Robbie and how he might have a positive effect on the Indian male psyche.
This is not Bollywood as you might know it – it was never going to be with Anurag Kashyap at the helm – expect to see more of Bachchan junior in Kashyap films. The two have an undoubted chemistry off screen.

Bachchan talked about it in our interview and Kashyap came into the room at the end to endorse what Bachchan had said about their new friendship without any prompting.

While this is much closer to social realism than you might expect of normal Bollywood fare, there is fun side to it and the music is beautiful and helps the narration.

Bachchan is most definitely back and in fine form,,,
