Cannes 2026: ‘Elephants in the Fog’ – Nepali film makes history…
We will have more soon on Cannes and other stories… check our socials for updates…
NEPALI film ‘Elephants in the Fog’ has hit a high mark by becoming the first film from this country to be featured in official selection at the Cannes Film Festival.
Made by Abinash Bikram Shah, it will enjoy its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival (May 12-23). This category is just one section below the main Competition fare of the festival. The film is about a mother and daughter and embattled minority communities.
It’s the first time Shah is helming a feature film – he wrote ‘Shambhala’ – which featured at London Film Festival in 2024 and had its world premiere at the Berlinale earlier that year.
Shah’s short film, ‘Lori’, was recognised by the jury at Cannes 2022. (See our recent X post quote – he is pictured with others).
The official selection was announced in Paris yesterday (April 9) by the artistic director of the festival Thierry Fremaux. A number of the world’s top auteur filmmakers feature at what will be the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
