AS ALWAYS there were stars on the Red Carpet for the Opening Gala of the London Indian Film Festival (LIFF) at the Cineworld, Haymarket, in Central London last night.
Among the big names was Bollywood star Ajay Devgn and his daughter Nysa – was just a shame she wasn’t able to drag Mum along – another Bollywood star and arguably a bigger drawn than even her hubbie, Kajol (See our Dilwale and DDLJ story in the film archive).
Devgn is the producer of the film, ‘Parched’, which was the film on the evening.
Also in attendance was director of celebrated ‘Elizabeth’ films, Shekhar Kapur who will appear at a masterclass on Saturday (at the BFI Southbank – please see our 1/2 price discount offer for LIFF films there).
There were many personalities from the entertainment world at last night’s opening – see the gallery….
Director Leena Yadav (pictured below – read our interview with her) and a few of the cast also attended the screening and participated in a Q&A after.
Metro film editor Larushka Ivan-Zadeh posed the questions to Yadav, and actors Tannishtha Chatterjee (Rani) , Lehar Khan (Janaki), and Chandan Anand (Rajesh). The film, an uplifting tale of resilience, courage and female comradeship, drew a tremendous response from the theatre.
