ANAPURNA ROY won a Directors Prize at Venice for this film about two female flatmates living in Mumbai. About the unusual friendship that develops between them – the lead character played by Naz Shaikh is a part-time call girl who entertains her ‘lover’ at her flat and is also trying to break into the entertainment industry as an actor. Her flatmate has a ‘proper’ tech job and works from home – she is also seeking a marriage and goes online to find her soulmate. Do these two women get on? The film explores all their relationships and most crucially the one between them. It’s a little slow and ponderous at times but works beautifully with the two actors, especially Shaikh excelling. Roy is definitely one to watch. ACV rating****
