In this interview, www.asianculturevulture.com’s Momtaz Begum-Hossain talks to Akshay Kumar, Bollywood superstar, about his latest film, ‘Gold’. Kumar plays the character of Tapan Das and the film is about India’s first ever Gold medal at an Olympic Games in London 1948. India went onto dominate the sport for many years before losing its supremacy in the mid-1980s, recording its last Olympic Gold in 1980. There were continous golds between 1928-1956 in the sport and when India remained under British rule.India’s Gold in 1948 was its first as an independent nation and was won on the soil of their colonial masters until just a year before the Olympics. The film celebrates that remarkable achievement and the London scenes were shot here in the UK and across some locations in the North of England.
