Cannes 2.30pm CET
ONE OF INDIA’S MOST enduring cinema legends Sharmila Tagore was in attendance for the Cannes Classic screening of Satyajit Ray’s ‘Nights and Days in the Forest’ – which also saw a very personal and warm introduction by Hollywood director, Wes Anderson.
They were also joined at last night’s screening by another star of the film, Simi Garewal.
Made in 1970 and shot at around this time 55 years ago, the film is regarded as one of Ray’s best.
It is about four young men who go on a weekend trip to the country from their homes in Kolkata (Calcutta), stay in a lodge and encounter three local women – one of whom is Tagore and another Garewal.
We have a full video of the introduction by Anderson as well Tagore, Garewal and other figures responsible for the new 4K restoration print – made by Film Heritage Foundation of India…
