Cannes 2025 – Final Red Carpet: Alia Bhatt, Simone Ashley, Payal Kapadia & winning films – next…

Cannes 10am CET

THIS is our last red carpet video from the Cannes Film Festival this year – watch new L’Oreal ambassador and Bollywood star Alia Bhatt walk the red carpet for the second occasion, while Simone Ashley returns as a figurehead for the company after making her debut here last year.

Payal Kapadia, the Cannes Grand Prix winning writer-director from last year, with her film, ‘All We Imagine as Light’ was on the main Competition Jury this year – and just four years after making her debut in Cannes with her hybrid fictional opening, documentary reportage film, ‘A Night of Knowing Nothing’ screening in a sidebar section, Directors Fortnight.

Speaking of which Adnan Al Rajeev from Bangladesh scored big in the shorts section of the same section with his short film, ‘Ali’.

He was acknowledged in the auditorium where the closing ceremony took place for receiving the Special Mention in this section. We have an interview with Rajeev from Cannes before he won the award – look out for it on our Youtube channel. (Subscribe and 🔔 don’t miss!)

Elsewhere the top award the Palme d’Or went this year to the film, ‘It’s a Simple Accident’ by Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi.

The Grand Prix went to ‘Sentimental Value’ by Joachim Trier, whose film in Norwegian and English and featuring Renate Reinvise and Hollywood star Elle Fanning, in a deep family drama spanning three generations, www.asianculturevulture.com saw – look out for the review soon!

This year two films were given a Jury Prize – ‘Sirāt‘by French-Spanish director Olivier Laxe and ‘Sound of Falling‘ by Mascha Schilinski. ACV saw ‘Sirat‘ and will be compiling a review of the film which is essentially a disaster road movie. The film is executively produced by one of the world’s most recognised directors, Pedro Almodovar.

Winning the Best Director prize at Cannes this year is Brazilian Kieber Mendonca Filho for his film, ‘The Secret Agent‘ – starring Wagner Moura as a technology expert on the run and looking to connect with his son during a festival.

The Best Screenplay award went to Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne for ‘Young Mothers’. It is literally a film about five young mums in a housing shelter.

Hafsia Herzi won the Acting award for her portrayal of a 17-year-old born to a loving French-Algerian family and feeling the first pangs of love, experiencing university and trying to find her identity in ‘La Petite Derniere’.

The jury headed up by French actress Juliette Binoche also awarded a Special prize to the film, ‘Resurrection’ by Chinese director, Bi Gan.

On the main competition jury this year were Hollywood actors Halle Berry and Jeremy Strong, Italian actor Alice Rorhwacher, French Moroccan writer Leila Slimani, screenwriter and director Dieudo Hamadi from the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Korean writer-director Hong Sangsoo and Mexican director and screenwriter, Carlos Reygadas.

The Indian film, ‘Homebound’ screened in the next section down from the main Competition – known as Un Certain Regard. Neeraj Ghaywan’s film is a deeply personal and reflective film that deserves the high plaudits it got generally in Cannes – watch our interviews which will be added to the site shortly – cast (Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa & Janhvi Kapoor) and director Ghaywan.

We continue to drop our videos on our Youtube Channel – there are more and we will be updating the site with these and reviews and a final wrap piece and picture gallery on the website soon!

This year we marked 10 years of making videos at the Cannes Film Festival and we have a signed poster with many of our star interviewees – more on this in our final wrap! Keep it locked with asianculturevulture.com!
