🎥 Earlier at Main Competition Jury press conference presided this year by chair South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-took, Ken Loach screen writer Paul Laverty called out Hollywood for blacklisting stars Susan Sarandon and others in Hollywood for standing up and against the violence in Gaza. Laverty called it a genocide and said people needed to be reminded of a basic humanity; Irish star Ruth Negga talked about the poetry of cinema, while Demi Moore sidestepped opening up about whether Hollywood had changed in its treatment of women and acv wanted to ask her about art and activism having been involved in producing a trafficking film about a girl who is sold in her native Nepal, brought to India and then shipped to the US. Called ‘Love Sonia‘ and written by British screenwriter Alkesh Vaja, it screened to great acclaim at the London Indian Film Festival in 2018. Unfortunately, the question selector/prompter didn’t entertain any questions from the middle following one early on. There are 22 Competition films and the jury will choose the winner – the Palme d’Or.
