Vani Tripathi Tikoo – India board member CBFC talks censorship, Padmaavat and about her deep admiration for ‘The Boy with the Top Knot’

VANI TRIPATHI TIKOO serves on the Central Board of Film Certification in India and she and her boss, Prashoon Joshi, were at at the heart of the controversy over the release of ‘Padmaavat’. An influential figure within the ruling BJP, she is also an actor, theatremaker and filmmaker. She talks about the ‘Padmaavat‘ (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) brouhaha, her hopes and ambitions for International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa later this year and rebuts any suggestion that the climate for films and filmmakers has changed in recent times in India. She also champions the cause of mental health there, trumpeting the fact that the BBC TV drama, ‘The Boy with the Topknot‘ by Sathnam Sanghera, and based on his best-selling memoir, had a world premiere at IFFI last year.
