BRITAIN’S longest running South Asian film festival – the UK Asian Film Festival got underway last night (May 1) for its 27th edition at the BFI Southbank in London, with the screening of the anthology film, ‘My Melbourne’.
We have short red carpet interviews with Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali (‘Amar Singh Chamkila’) – in the main picture and Australian Indian Mitu Bhowmick (bottom right) – look out on Youtube and Instagram for those (subscribe/follow) – as well soundbites from presenters Sunny & Shay (BBC London Radio) (second right), Dr Pushpinder Chowdhry (middle left), co founder and director of the UKAFF; and creative director Samir Bhamra (top right).
And more about the film which was written and co-directed by Aussie Samira Cox and had the creative input and direction of Indian directors Onir – his most recent feature – ‘We are Faheem and Karun’ – shows at the UKAFF, after screening recently at BFI Flare; while directors Ali, Kabir Khan (‘Chandu Champion’), Rima Das (‘Village Rockstars 2’) also participated in the films which are all centred around lead female characters living in Melbourne – and was assisted and funded by Screen Australia and the local film board.
