Netflix Heeramandi star was recently in London and we round up news and our interviews since we first met the actor who plays the romantic hero Tajdar in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s global hit series, ‘Heeramandi’ about the powerful women ‘entertainer-artists’ who ran the court in Lahore in the early part of the last century with the British still in power…
HE came, he saw, he charmed.
The breakout star of ‘Heeramandi’ came to London after we met him in Cannes and was the subject of much admiration, adulation and curiosity, again.
Here, he was presented with Rising Star of the Future Award at the India Week (June 29-July 5) organised by London based consultancy group, EPG.
He was presented with the award at the final event of the week held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in central London at a black tie event dinner.
Just before he also attended the St James Court/Taj Buckingham Gate Wimbledon Sundowner, at which www.asianculturevulture.com was also present and saw Indian tennis legend Leander Paes talk about his pride at being inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Earlier in the day, Badussha also participated in a discussion with journalist Anuj Radia at the Royal Lancaster.
Badussha first broke through in ‘Heeramandi’ created by Indian auteur director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. A second series has been announced and filming will commence when the scripts are complete – even Badussha didn’t know when that would be.
He has signed for a film but told us that he wasn’t able to talk about it – and much of the press has been about his breakthrough series, his career to date and his comparisons to Shah Rukh Khan – his idol.
We discuss this in our main London interview – there were many who compared him to SRK, the Badshah of Bollywood, especially following the star’s success with Pathan and Jawan.
There were also comments about Badussha being a new romantic hero with many interested in his personal views of love, marriage and romance.
And finally, returning back to London and Britain, he spoke about his desire to work across divides in both Indian and Western cinema…
It will be interesting to see where he makes his next splash…
